North Yorkshires Dark Skies.
The North York Moors were recently awarded Dark Skies Status. Local Communities across the National Park have worked hard to reduce light pollution. This is very evident at places like Beck Hole, a wonderful village Near Goathland.
If you have access to a Car whilst you stay with us at Seafront Cottages then check out the moors at night. If your from a town or city then you will never have even realised just how many stars are out there. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye on moonless nights from right across the moors.
The darkest places I have found in the area are on the back road to Pickering which runs from Egtron Bridge, through the tiny moorland village of Stape. Some of the places around there are so dark you cant see your hand in front of your face.
Moonless nights are best, but even with a big bright full moon the night skies are totally inspirational in our National Park.
